Quiz: Respiratory System
The respiratory system is responsible for gas exchange, allowing oxygen to enter the body and carbon dioxide to be expelled. Its main organs include:
- Nose and Nasal Cavity: Filter, warm, and moisten incoming air.
- Pharynx and Larynx: The pharynx directs air to the larynx, which contains the vocal cords and ensures air passes into the trachea.
- Trachea: A tube supported by cartilage rings that transports air to the lungs.
- Bronchi and Bronchioles: The trachea branches into bronchi, which further divide into smaller bronchioles, leading air to the alveoli.
- Lungs: Contain alveoli, tiny air sacs where oxygen diffuses into the blood, and carbon dioxide diffuses out.
- Diaphragm and Intercostal Muscles: Facilitate breathing by changing the volume of the chest cavity.
This system works closely with the circulatory system to deliver oxygen to tissues and remove waste gases.
